Discrepancy Theory
It is the theoretical approach to job satisfaction.
According to the theory Job Satisfaction depends upon what a person actually receives from his job and what he expects to receive. When the rewards actually received are less than the expected rewards it causes dissatisfaction.Â

According to Locke, “Job satisfaction and dissatisfaction are functions of the perceived relationship between what one wants from one’s job and what one perceives it is actually offering.”Â
Satisfaction is the difference between what one actually received and what he feels he should receive.
